Paddled Rock Springs Run after work today, Tuesday, May 11, 2010. As the days get longer, I can get a decent yak in after an 8 hour day. Barring a summer thunderstorm. Today, high pressure kept the rain away and I was able to launch from Wekiwa Springs State Park at 5:30. Local colleges must be done for the year, there were a lot of people in that demographic at the Park. Saw two canoes on the way down the Wekiva to Rock Springs Run. Female paddle eeeking over a spider. What do you expect in the woods?
The great egret and small gator were on the Wekiva. I could hear, but not see, two barred owls calling "who cooks for you". I paddled quickly, wanting to get in as much distance as I could before dark. One kayak on Rock Springs Run. One deer. I took three photos, two into the sun, the third as it ran away. Big doe, up Run of Indian Mound. No picture turned out. Both Indian Mound and Otter had campers. Unusual for a weekday. Again, college aged kids. I turned around at just past. Big Buck. That site can't be seen from Rock Springs Run) other than the sign) but it there's not a canoe in sight, that usually means its empty.
I turned around at 6:55. I did see wildlife, just didn't get many photos. Ibis, osprey, anhinga, pileated wood peckers, possibly an otter, wood ducks, limpkins, in addition to the few pics I did get.
Flora pics to make up for the lack of fauna.
I landed at 8:10. Could have stayed out another 15 minutes, plenty of light remaining. Time stamp on this pic is 8:18 as I wheeled the kayak to the car. Taken with "sunset" mode.

Well, I tried to allow Anonymous postngs. As soon as I did, I had the same problem with the same person/spammer posting comments. One jerk spoils it for all. So,you'll need to register to post a comment.
