Gum Slough

On the Withlacochee River just before 8 AM

The shell mound at Potts Preserve

Into Gum Slough

2.5 hour paddle to the springs that are the source of Gum Slough

Found an unobtrusive spot to stash the kayak, and snorkeled the springs.

This is Alligator Spring. In a separate cove from the main Gum Springs.  Hand over the side.

I was worried that I might tbe scraping the limestone.  A slight bump, nothing bad.

A spring down the Slough.  Another one is nearby, could not find it, this trip.

The sign below tells me I am in the wrong channel.

Stop at Potts Preserve. Had a reservation to camp, the following weekend.  Like nearly everything else, it was canceled.

The end of 6 hours, 10 minutes, on and in the water.  Saw about 7 kayakers coming up the Slough as I came down.  Two anglers in a canoe with a motor.  One boat with one of those long props,  Going slow, to not stir up the bottom.  Later, another one.  Towing another boat with a motor.  Down Slough from them, the once clear water was brown.  One airboat, which, thankfully, turned around.

Hernando County Courthouse, Inverness.

Well, I tried to allow Anonymous postngs. As soon as I did, I had the same problem with the same person/spammer posting comments. One jerk spoils it for all. So,you'll need to register to post a comment.
