Blue Spring, Friday, July 23

Short, rain delayed paddle from Blue Springs State Park

The original plan for the weekend was Saturday night at Cotton Landing on Holmes Creek in the Panhandle.  Free site. Primitive. No water or electric. Outhouse. Close to beautiful Cypress Spring.  I aske d my friend Frances, what the water level needs to be for Cypress to be clear.  Holmes Creek was at 14.5 and falling.  On Wednesday, Cabin 4 at Blue Spring became available.  I grabbed it.

I often drive 2-3 hours to my weekend destination on Fridays.  Cuts into kayaking time.  Was looking forward to the short drive, 30 miles, to Blue Spring State Park
Rain spoiled my plans to snorkel, then paddle.

Not just rain. Thunderstorms.  A lot of the above phots were taken under roofs.

The rain let up enough to take a walk on the Pine Island Trail

The rain, and thunder, stopped.
On the St Johns River at 7:53

Deer on the shore

Gator in the dark

Landed at 8:31
The cabin
Older, and smaller than ones at Silver Springs, Fanning Springs, Suwannee River, Lafayette Blue Spring, and Stephen Foster State Parks.  95 a night, the others, except Silver, which is $110, are 100 a night. Plus the new daily $7 utility charge.

It shows its age. At least 2 lamps had switches that did not work. Have to plug in, plug out. Just like home.

Well, I tried to allow Anonymous postngs. As soon as I did, I had the same problem with the same person/spammer posting comments. One jerk spoils it for all. So,you'll need to register to post a comment.
