Rock Springs Run

Still cold in Central Florida, so I waited until late morning before heading to Wekiwa Springs State Park this Sunday, January 10, 2009. The worker at the launch said only one rental had gone out when I set off at 10:50.

I guess it was somewhere in the 30's. Unlike Saturday on the Silver River, the sun was out. Making it a little more comfortable for me, and turtles.
Great blue heron at the confluence of the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run.
Up Rock Springs Run. About the only bird I did not see yesterday on the Silver River were limpkins. Here is one on Rock Springs Run.
I don't recall seeing wood storks on Rock Springs Run before.

Great egret

Its been a while since I've seen an otter on the Wekiva and Rock Springs Run. When I've seen them other places recently, I've been unable to get a photo.
Another riverine mammal.
No one was on the Run. I paddled just into where the tall trees take over, upstream of Big Buck, turning back at 12:45

No deer today, probably due to my late start. Or maybe they had the sense to stay out of the cold

I saw otters five times, four of which were likely the same ones, on the way up and down

Another otter.
I saw one other boat. Canoeing couple in a Park rental.

I landed just before three, a nice hour hours on a cool, but sunny day. No swim in the Spring. It was a good weekend to have my waterproof housing broken. A new one is on its way.

The water is warm. Its the air that's cold.
