Wekiva River, Levy County

21 Adventure seekers from the Glen Lakes Kayak CLub set out from the Wacasassa River boat ramp to the legendary, Bachelor Pad on the Wekiva River. They were accompanied by a accomplished Adventures in Florida guide, Dayna, and myself.
Keen eyed observers (not the author) saw a sea cow and land cows. That would be a manatee and cattle in the cypress swamp.Everyone saw hundreds of fiddler crabs scuttling along the low tide exposed river bank. Also observed were yellow crowned night herons, cardinals, belted kingfishers, leaping mullet and a black racer snake.
The current was a swift as I have seen in on this section of the Wekiva, but most of the group made it to the Bachelor Pad. A name given by me to an old boat house. I figured if there is a Honeymoon Cottage in nearby Cedar Key (picuted in this blog's cover) there had to be a Bachelor Pad nearby.
We paddled back down the Wekiva, to the confluence with the Wacasassa River, returning to the boat ramp. A fine time was had by all.
