Blackwater River

A big smile from someone who capsized his kayak shortly before this.

Waiting for Jeany and Tom at the Deaton Road Bridge at Blackwater River State Park

We drove to the Bryant Bridge to launch.  The site where Frances, Michelle, and I took out, yesterday.

Underway at 11:47

I have paddled with Tom since we were kids.  Canoes as youngsters.  Jeany, on the other hand, never kayaked until she met Tom.  Until  today, her experience was on calm Lake Shelby in Gulf Shores, AL.  At the beginning, she was not ready for the swift current of Blackwater Creek.  Got caught in some branches.   Gallant Tom went to help.  She got unstuck.  He capsized.

I told Jeany she went from beginner to intermediate kayaker, today.

Tom showing how high some of the banks are along the Blackwater River

There used to be a pavilion , here.

Landed at 3:55.

I had time for a quick stop at Ponce De Leon Springs State Park.  About half way from Blackwater and the Stone B&B. (and dinner, I am getting spoiled)

3 people at the Park.  A ranger, a volunteer, and yours truly.
